Matt loves meeting passionate founders with a unique perspective on problems and insatiable curiosity. He supports the team by identifying new investment opportunities, taking companies through diligence and supporting the portfolio. Some areas of focus include generative AI and software infra.
Prior to joining Cowboy, Matt was an investor at Bullpen Capital, an early-stage venture firm focused on post-seed investments. At Bullpen, he led sourcing and diligence for both enterprise and consumer companies, and supported portfolio operations and fundraising.
Matt graduated with a BS from Stanford University. He grew up in Hong Kong, which remains home. Matt is an avid sports fan, loves electronic music and once spent three months sea kayaking in Patagonia.

What’s one thing people are often surprised to learn about you?
I once went on a musical exchange to North Korea. We spent a week touring the country and performing with a local high school – the highlight was definitely waving to tourists from the Northern side of the DMZ.
Who is someone you admire?
My Mom. She redefined education in Hong Kong by founding its first non-profit, independent school dedicated to bilingual and bicultural education – while raising four children! I’m a proud alum.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I love meeting people who make me question my assumptions about the world. I savor the opportunity to learn from founders who see things differently. Supporting them as they build the next great companies is a privilege – and so much fun!
